Welcome June

June reminds me of something I forget every winter--
Shade is different from
regular air
Shade falls from trees heavy--
Full of shadows from so many yesterdays

A quiet hiding place for long-lost
midnight breezes

Shade is where you go
to think the thoughts
that come from cooler, dimmer shores

Another hot day
And when the sun goes down
relief from the searing heat
comes from the ground up.

Every blade of grass
cools off one by one

And when I walk into the meadow at
the end of the day I can feel the
Twilight
on my ankles.
